Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman1. Why did the firm upgrade to Interwoven (formerly iManage)?
KMZ Rosenman became frustrated with the instability and reliability of Hummingbird. While not totally the problem, Hummingbird was causing workstation stability problems as well as "lost" document changes. iManage's three tier architecture was technically attractive. We also found the
organization more willing to work through our problems and implement our suggested improvements than Hummingbird.
2. What system did you have in place and for how long?
KMZR used Hummingbird/Docs Open for four years.
3. How many offices converted to
WorkSite?
KMZ Rosenman has major offices in Chicago, Charlotte, Los Angeles, New York, and Los Angeles.
4. How many documents were converted to WorkSite?
More than four million documents across all offices.
5. What
tools were used for your firm's conversion?
WorkSite's PCD2NRT utility
WorkSite's mass IMPORT utility
NTG's folder conversion tools (partner)
Olson Consulting, Inc. conversion tools (partner): to better handle security conversion, incremental conversion procedure, PCDOCS near-line storage, full text indexing fixes, lookup table data population, conversion cleanup and folder creation
6. What was your roll-out plan and how long did it take?
Migration from Hummingbird to
was completed in conjunction with our desktop upgrades (migration from Windows 95 to Windows 2000 OS; from Microsoft Office 97 to Microsoft Office 2000; and from Lotus Notes email to Microsoft Outlook). Migration was completed office by office with 10 to 20 people migrated per night. We attempted to migrate "workgroups" (attorneys and their administrative assistants) all on the same evening.
7. What type of training was provided during rollout for lawyers and the administrative staff?
For our attorneys, approximately one-half day of classroom training and "on the floor" Help Desk personnel available to assist/train as required. For our administrative staff, approximately one day of classroom training and "on the floor" Help Desk personnel available to assist/train as required.
8. How has the firm benefited in upgrading to WorkSite?
Besides stability and reliability (the major benefit we hoped to achieve), we
have experienced benefits from Portable (since a number of attorneys are laptop
users) and WorkSite document sharing and collaboration facility. We initially
employed WorkSite to create a collaborative space during the March 2002 merger
with the former Rosenman and Colin firm. WorkSite allowed collaboration with former
Katten Muchin Zavis, former Rosenman and Colin, and third party consulting personnel.
We have since built both external and practice group collaborative sites in literally
hours rather than days/months.
